Minister for the Ministry of Public Service (MPS) and Member of Parliament (MP) for North New Georgia John Dean Kuku has highlighted the positive impact of the 2015 Appropriation Bill, reiterating that this is a responsible budget.
In his remarks Kuku stated; “the 2015 budget reflects both our means and our needs, seeing that its foundation builds on the policies of increasing capacity for productivity and growth and our philosophy of prudent financial management, service delivery, and consistency.”
He said that this budget will touch the lives of every citizen as it empowers them and provides them with better opportunities, a means of investment in all our futures.
Mr Kuku added that the benefit of work go far beyond wages, salaries and allowances. “Work gives people a sense of self, and work helps to build a sense of community, that is why young people should move into employment before they embark on a life on welfare,” he said.
“To build a more prosperous community and a better quality of life we need to build on our strengths,” he said. “One of our greatest strength as a nation is our capacity to innovate and invent, but unless we fix the budget together we will leave the next generation a legacy of debt, not opportunity,” he added.
“We must not leave our children worse off which is very unfair and it shouldn’t be the way,” Kuku stated. “We are a nation of craftsmen and women: Seafarers: a nation of warriors, so let us stand together and face tomorrow,” he further stated.
“By everyone making a contribution now, we will together build a better Solomon Islands,” he added.
“Poverty and prosperity of a nation is a matter of choice,” he continued. “They are neither a gift nor luck, they need to be earned so we have to make a choice,” he further added.
He added the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) government stands ready to restore hope, reward and opportunity so that all Solomon Islanders can face a bright future with confidence. “Our future depends on what we as a nation do today,” the Public Service Minister stated.
In addition to his remarks he said, that this year will long be remembered as the year the National Parliament of Solomon Islands made a bold decision to investment in its future.
Kuku conclude by saying that every generation before us has contributed to the quality of life that we enjoy today, thus it is time for all of us to contribute and build.
“This is the day: now is the time,” he said.
