MARIST Seahawks coach Elenoa Kunatuba is looking forward to her next coaching assignment in Papua New Guinea this year.
The former Fijiana coach has been snapped by the PNG Rugby Union to head its women’s team.
Kunatuba hopes the experience she gained from coaching Fijiana and the champion Marist Seahawks team will help her in her new assignment.
“I’m looking forward to the challenges that PNG has in store and in terms of coaching, it’s just enhancing my coaching skills and, hopefully, it doesn’t perish and the challenge that PNG girls will do better,” she said.
“I wouldn’t miss it and for me that’s part of my professional development. I will definitely enhance my knowledge in terms of getting attached to overseas national teams and rugby is a big difference because the Fijian girls are natural at it, they are natural sevens players. PNG also has natural athletes.”
Kunatuba said her new role would be a challenging one, given the diversity of sports being played in PNG.
“There’s a lot of work that we need to work on in PNG.
“We are going to have to go back to the basics because we have a lot of sports transfer, we got soccer girls, netball and league girls and I’m trying to get them to blend into rugby and get to know the laws.”
