AFTER Day Three of the 2016 OFC Futsal Championship the defending champions, Solomon Islands National Futsal Team, known as Kurukurus are currently leading the competition with nine points from three successive victory.
Their 4-1 victory over hot contenders Futsal Whites edged them a step closer to 2016 Futsal World Cup set for Colombia later this year.
Captain Elliot Ragomo registered the first goal for the defending champions from a stunning individual effort after eight minutes of hot battle.
His goal was the only goal scored from their several attempts before both teams went for a break.
Goal keeper Anthony Talo was kept busy saving a handful of Futsal Whites unlimited attempts.
He even saved Eakin’s splendid penalty kick after Kurukuru player Robert Laua fouled Futsal Whites player inside their own half.
The score margin was 1-0 in favour of the Kurukurus.
After the break both teams regrouped well and but it was Kurukuru who make used of their opportunities scoring three more goals.
Jack Wetney scored the second goal followed by Ragomo and just before full time Jeffrey Bule smacked home the final goal for the local side.
New Zealand’s Micky Malivuk picked up their consolation goal eight minutes before full time.
In their earlier match yesterday Vanuatu defeated New Caledonia 6-3 while Tahiti edged Fiji 9-1 in the final match of Day Three last night.
Meanwhile the competition will continues tomorrow with Tahiti taking on New Caledonia for the first match of the Day Four followed by Kurukuru up against Vanuatu and Host country, Fiji against New Zealand.
