Solomon Islands national futsal men’s team, Kurukuru has done it again, another win in the Oceania Futsal Championship.
This time an impressive 5-1 win over New Caledonia who suffered their first defeat following their win against the host Fiji with a similar score margin 5-1 on Monday.
New Caledonia looked sharp and united as they did away with Fiji 5-1; however the Kurukuru team came prepared slotting home four unanswered goals to take a comfortable lead in the first half.
George Stevenson had his name on the score sheet for his second in the competition breaking the deadlock three minutes into the first half.
This was shortly followed by Micah Lea’lafa’s goal four minutes later and a double by Coleman Makau in the dying minutes of the first half to make it 4-0.
Three minutes into the second half Stevenson struck again for his second extending the lead to five goals.
New Caledonia managed a goal by Mainon Kaouwi half way through the second stanza to give his side some pride.
Kurukuru’s next match will be against one of the strong contenders of the competition, the New Zealand Futsal Whites.
This game will kick off at 4:30pm today.
There is no doubt both sides will be heading out onto the court with equal levels of determination.
Defensively, New Zealand is one of the stronger sides but Kurukuru’s remains determined and according to the Brazilian Coach Juliano Schmeling they treat every match as the final.
