THE national U17 futsal team known as the Solympics will take on the national futsal team, Kurukuru, in a curtain raiser today.
The curtain raiser will be played between the Schools U16 futsal championship finals.
Currently leading the SIPA National league, the futsal Solympics are using this encounter as part of their ongoing preparation towards the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina October this year.
The Solympics team will be heading to Australia this month for a one week training camp and gate takings from the curtain raiser would help the team.
The Solympics team coach, Stanley Puiarana said the match will be a boost to the U17’s preparation.
“The U17 team looks forward for this friendly match.
“This match will help boost the team’s preparation as we prepare for the Youth Olympic Games.
“Playing against the senior side is very helpful for the team’s preparations since they are the current Oceania champions,” he said.
The match will also be an opportunity to bring the Kurukuru team together again for a match since their participation at the Asian Indoor Games last year.
Kurukuru Head coach Jerry Sam has prepared a 16-man squad purposely for the encounter.
“It’s good to call the boys back into action mainly to give our young boys in the U-17 team a good test,” he said.
Meanwhile, entry fee for the friendly is adult $20 and student $10 and all money raised will proceed towards the U-17 Australian tour.
