A list of 34 futsal players has been announced for the country’s national futsal team training squad to prepare ahead of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Qualifiers in October 2023 in Auckland, New Zealand.
The names were released by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) following the announcement by Interim Head Coach and former Kurukuru player, Francis Lafai yesterday.
The training squad comprises of both the experienced and youth futsal players.
Experienced players include the likes of Jack Wetney, James Egeta Coleman Makau, Elliot Ragomo, Jack Witney, James Egeta, Micah Lea’alafa, George Stevenson, Coleman Makau and Jeffery Bule.
“A mixture of experience and youth players is called up to be part of Solomon Islands Kurukuru training squad in preparation for the FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifiers.
“The Interim head coach Francis Lafai named 34 players into the extended squad featuring some of the golden generation active players.
“Core members of the OFC Futsal Cup and few new players are drafted into the squad,” a statement from SIFF confirmed.
According to reports from SIFF, home based players will start training today, Tuesday January 31st and Thursdays at the Honiara outdoor multipurpose under the guidance of Lafai and trainer Nelson Kabitana.
Meanwhile, SIFF is in the process of hiring a foreign coach and will join the national side soon.
