BUSINESSMAN John Kwaita has been released on police bail, police said Tuesday.
He will appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates Court on 2nd February 2022.
Mr. Kwaita was charged with unauthorised public assembly and public procession contrary to regulation 14(1) & (3) (a) of the emergency powers (COVID -19) (N0.3) 2021; regulation 4 of the emergency powers (COVID-19) (Declaration of Honiara as Emergency Zone (Amendment) Order 2020; section 21 (b) of the penal code, police media spokesman, Desmond Rave said.
Rave said Mr. Kwaita was released on police bail.
He was taken into custody on Monday night and was formally charged yesterday afternoon.
Mr Kwaita who is the United Party Leader was taken from his home by police officers at around 5pm on Monday.
Reports reaching the paper said he finally reunited with his family at their family home yesterday.
