Dear Editor – It is with deep concern that this above illegal alcohol is causing so much problem in our country today.
For a start, let me say the person who was responsible in coming up with the recipe of this product is partly to be blamed for causing this ever growing problem we now have our communities and provinces now.
Kwaso and its related problem is getting out of hand in the country.
Many youths have now indulged in this illegal home brewed product and its affecting their health.
A lot of youths have lost their lives because of over consumption of Kwaso.
This dangerous substance is a health concern. I have seen youths and father who have been admitted as a result of consuming too much.
Families are also resorting to producing kwaso at their homes and continue to sell them at the market area or in their homes to make ends meet. And its not good way to earn an income.
Every weekend there are people getting drunk not with beer, but with kwaso and they are disturbing families, mothers, children and communities who wants to have some rest and peace of mind.
These drunkards are also a threat to the public because once they become too drunk they can cause problem and involved in criminal activities.
This makes our community unsafe and people no longer live in peace but with fear.
I guess police is trying its best to control the use of kwaso but also finds it hard as well.
Community leaders have been urged time and time again to work with the police to curb this increasing problem, but perhaps they too are finding it hard.
As I ponder up this growing problem, I think its not an easy problem to tackle and the country will continue to face problem that is connected to kwaso.
There are no quick solution to this problem. But if you do have some solution share it with us.
There are families who are affected as a result of the father and a member of their family getting too drunk with kwaso and coming home and causing problem.
I sympathise with mothers and children whose father continue to get involve in drinking kwaso each weekend.
It puts families and their future at risk.
My concern here is tougher penalties should be imposed on those found producing, selling and even consuming it.
We don’t want to be referred to in the future as a society with drunkards everywhere.
In the meantime lets all work together to tackle this problem.
God bless Solomon Islands.
