LANDOWNERS of Maana’oba airstrip are demanding the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA) to explain with break down figures of how the $62 million spent on the airfield was disbursed.
This was raised to the Solomon Star at the Kitano Mendana Hotel, where the Lolo tribe of Maana’oba met on Thursday.
The landowners of Lolo tribe claimed that out of what government spent on Maanaoba airport they only received $2.5million, thus they are curious about where, who, what or how the $62million was spent.
They demanded the Permanent Secretary (PS) for MCA Moses Virivolomo to publish the breakdown of the $62million in the print media for transparency sake, or tell the Minister for Aviation to reveal the breakdown on the floor of parliament.
Landowners said it is a breach of Malaita culture to blame people for millions of dollars, when they received less than 5% of the total money spent so far on the airport.
Hence, they said this unexplained expenditure of $62million deserve compensation on the part of those who abuse this fund at the expense of the poor landowners.
