A Landslide occurred along the East Road in Malaita over the weekend leaving travelling passengers stranded.
This was confirmed by the Solomon Star reporter Ronald Toito’ona who is currently on tour in the area.
Reports reaching this paper claimed that the landslide has damaged the east Malaita road at Rarata area living travelers in tough situation.
The iincident happened last Friday following a heavy rain in the area.
Mr. Toito’ona said the unfortunate situation has forced trucks carrying passengers from Auki not to reach Atori.
“They have to be dropped off where the landslide occurred and have to take another pick-up truck to Atori.”
Another concern for travelers in the area is the current bad status of the Kwaiafa Bridge.
“The Kwaiafa Bridge is also a concern for the travelers as they will not be able to cross the river if there is heavy downpour.”
Residents in East Malaita therefore call on the responsible authority to fix the bridge and the road quickly.
“It is very risky for us to travel to East Malaita,” a passenger told this paper.
He said bridges and roads were not properly maintained for quiet sometime now.
