AS of 7th April, Solomons Islands Red Cross, as part of the multi-agency coordinating committee (Red Cross, Oxfam, World Vision, Save the Children and others), delivered the folowing to 21 welfare centres:
- Jerry cans for families (SIRC – 711)
- Blankets (SIRC – 45)
- Hygiene Kits for families (World Vision – 110)
- Sleeping mats (SIRC – 122)
- Family Kits (World Vision – 220)
SIRC is registering displaced people and sharing this information with Government and other agencies
In Guadalcanal Province SIRC volunteers are conducting damage assessments and distributions of non-food items, such as blankets, hygiene kits, kitchen sets. A staff member will also be stationed at the Government EOC in Guadalcanal.
Two SIRC NOMAD water purification machines are being set up on either side of Mataniko River. These can produce 5000 litres of clean water per hour.
All this work is being done by 50 volunteers and staff, supported by delegates from French, Australian, and New Zealand Red Cross national societies
An RNZAF C-130 Hercules also offloaded goods last night (7 April) for flood relief including:
- 140 shelter kits (NZRC)
- 420 tarpaulins (NZRC)
- 1 tap stand and bladder (NZRC)
- 250 Kitchen sets (NZRC)
- 1000 x 10-litre water containers (NZRC)
- 1000 x 10-litre water containers (MFAT)
- Medical supplies (MFAT)
These goods will start being delivered to affected people today.
