WITH the increasing accessibility to the internet by youths and mostly adult males the government will introduce the Cinematography Bill to prohibit illicit materials.
That’s according to Governor-General Sir David Vunagi during his traditional ‘Speech from the Throne’ in the parliament on Monday.
“With the prevailing and proliferation use of the internet we have seen an influx of visual and audio material coming into the country,” he said.
Its understood today more young people and the general public have access to fast internet since the operation of the Undersea Cable.
This will become a threat to the young generation if it is left uncontrolled by the authorities.
This paper is aware of the fact the pornographic materials and other explicit materials can be easily downloaded and shared amongst people.
Some critics have attributed the increasing rise of sexual related issues against girls and women in the country due to easy access to explicit materials by young and adult males.
Sir Vunagi in his speech strongly stated that the country must protect the young generation from illicit material.
“Therefore this government is committed to strengthening and empowering the Cinematography and Censorship Committee,” he added.
The Cinematography Bill will be brought to Cabinet in September this year 2020.
