DEAR EDITOR – Fiji’s Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will take a pay-cut of $65,750 under the COVID-19 supplementary budget. His current salary is $328,750.
Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum announced at all elected officials – the Prime Minister, ministers, assistant ministers and all members of Parliament – will have their pay cut by 20 per cent for the next six months.
-Khaiyum will have his salary reduced to $188,000 from the current $235,000.
Health Minister Ifereimi Waqanibete, Education Minister Rosy Akbar and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Jone Usamate will have a $40,000 pay-cut. They are earning $200,000 now.
All other Ministers who are on a salary of $185,000 will have their pay reduced to $148,000 after a 20 percent pay-cut.
All assistant ministers will have an $18000 reduction in salary from the current $90,000 to $72,000.
The Leader of the Opposition, Sitiveni Rabuka, will have a $24,000 reduction in his salary from the current $120,000 to $96,000.
All elected members of Parliament who are currently earning $50,000 will see a $10,000 reduction in salary.
