A rugby league match between two Honiara select sides will kick off this afternoon.
The match will be staged at Panatina oval starting at 4pm.
All interested players, officials and supporters of the code have been invited to come out in numbers to watch the match.
Solomon Islands Rugby League which is organising the event said the current executive is looking to kick off 2014 13’s competition later this month and the pre-competition match is to bring interested players, officials and supporters together in preparation for the upcoming 13’s competition.
There will be cash prize of $1,500 to grab for the winning team and second prize of $1,000 and also refreshment will be served to players, officials and invited guest after the match.
The league executive is currently working with local corporate & sporting partners and international counterparts to host a proposed international match in Honiara later this year.
Solomon Islands Rugby League Australian based player Vernon Stewart who arrived yesterday from Brisbane will team up with local players during the game.
Stewart was in the Solomon Islands Rugby League squad who played against Vanuatu Rugby League national side in Mackay, Queensland, Australian in October last year.
The league executive is also planning a prize presentation night in the coming months for teams that participated in the 13’s introductory competition last year 2013 and presentation of certificates to participants for coaching and
League chairman Beaver Biti said that there are more exciting events line up for the new code but his executive will announce as and when the time is right.
