HONIARA international airport has taken a step further with the installion ofa large electronic digital (LED) screen as part of promoting visual advertisment through large screens.
The first screen to be mounted is being position at the front of the terminal near the car park.
Since last week work on installing the LED screen had kicked off with trials being made to the screen to find the right resolution.
The project is an initiative by Solomon Islands Terminal Services (SITS) together with E-World Technology (SI) and the Ministry of Aviation.
Their target is to mount LED Billboards just outside the arrival lounge in an excellent position where every eyes will see.
George Ausolo, an IT Technician with E-World (SI), the IT company which had been engaged to set up the large screen said, work started last week but rain had disrupted their work.
Early this week Mr Ausolo and another IT officer were testing the screen for the first time when the Solomon Star caught up with them.
Mr Ausolo said, the screen was position in a way that visitors coming out of the departure lounge can see some of the informations.
“Not only visitors bu the public visiting the terminal,” he said.
A number of LED billboards are expected to be position outside the terminal.
It would feature advertisements and information on flight information and other tourism related activities.
Solomon Islands Terminal Services which has been instrumental of the project said, Honiara International Airport has become one of the busiest International airport entry point for all passengers entering Solomon Islands.
“We are confident to say that a total of 20,000 travellers passes thru this terminal every month hence it became an ideal venue to advertise your prime product and services.
“This LED Billboard will be an ideal mediumfor private or public organisations , NGOs, Diplomatic Corps, Government Ministeries and Provincial Governments to advertise or showcase their activities, products and services.”
The following are the target areas that they believe will be utilized using this facility:-
· Ministry of Provincial Government& Institutional Stregthening: – Showcase the 9 Provincial Second Appointed Days; Provincial Premiers’ Conferences/Meetings;
Provincial Developments and Programs such as Tourism attractions / places of interest in our Provinces etc; important events that are happening in these Provinces/Festivals and events .
· Ministery of Health& Medical Services: – Aids Awareness , Malaria awareness – information about the current episodes such as flu etc; health campaigns; Health warnings for the Public and visitors and international guests.
· Ministry of Evironment – Disaster awareness/warnings , info on the weather and evironment. Climate changes etc.
· Ministry of Tourism:– Calender of events , places of attraction , places to visit once in Solomon Islands; SIVB awareness and welcome message
· Ministry of Home Affairs: – Sporting events etc; Election Notices.
· NGOs:– such as UNDP, Oxfam, World Vision – for advocasies and promotions.
· BANKS and Financial Institutions:- promote their products and services
· Government Agencies – WHO , Forum Fisheries , EEC awareness , SOEs
Information Dissemination/promotion
The vision is on enhancing dissemination of vital information to the public more especially the visitors and guests into the country. Such as information on tourist destinations, accommodations, transport, etc.
