PAPUA New Guinea music legend Basil Greg says he’s glad to be back in Honiara, a place he had visited and performed on five previous occasions.
Greg, who has a huge following here, is leading a six-man band – all made up of PNG music legends – to perform today and tomorrow in Honiara.
They arrived on Sunday to be part of PNG’s 39th independence celebrations in Solomon Islands, and put on their first public performance, Tuesday, at the Telekom Grounds, Ranadi.
“I always feel at home whenever I come to Honiara,” Greg told the media yesterday.
“The last time I was here was in 1998. That was some 16 years ago.
“This is my sixth trip. Honiara had grown a lot in the last 16 years. There were new buildings, new roads, and a lot of development happening here in the last 16 years,” he said.
Accompanying Greg are Robert Oeka, another of PNG’s top artists, Oscar Kari (lead guitarist), Gary Vaibua (bass), Dika Dai (second keyboards), and Fred Harisson (first keyboards).
They were led by CHM rep and tour manager Renata Mari.
