More than 20 local Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church colporteurs jetted out of the country, Tuesday for Australia to attend a week long summit for Literate Evangelists around the Pacific.
The Literature Evangelist Summit is being held Watson Park in Brisbane starting yesterday until Sunday.
The theme for the regional event is; ‘Scattering Literature Everywhere.’
Pr Puiki Tasa who accompanied the delegation said, its a regional event and everybody are excited to attend it.
Most of the Colporteurs are those men and women who usually went from door to door selling all sorts of books from kids story books to family books, health, bible stories and even Bibles to people.
At the summit participants will listen to talks from various speakers, listen to sermons, pray together, share and hear their experiences and report from their respective countries, listen to testimonies about their work, challenges, achievements and plans for the future.
This is the largest number of participants from Solomon Islands to have attended such an event which is held every five years.
The last one was staged in Bangkok, Thailand five years ago and was attended by only four colporteurs from Solomon Islands.
Elvis Haro who also attended Bangkok event five years ago said, this is the largest group to attend the event because most of them have prepared for it and its much closer to Solomon Islands.
Most of them are based in and around Honiara. The group is being dominated by ladies.
Unfortunately a couple of their members were unable to join the group due to visa issue.
Most of the group members have been working hard and saving up towards the trip.
Mr Haro explained half of the members were able to have their trip funded after reaching their book sales target while others who failed to reach their target have to meet the cost of the trip from their own effort.
Apart from Solomon Islands other pacific island countries including Australia and New Zealand will also be part of the summit.
The group which looks forward to taking part in the event are expected back early next week.
Meanwhile Pr Puiki has acknowledged those who have supported their work in the country by buying their books.
“We want to thank all those who have supported us by buying our books which enable us to continue with our work as well as to attend this event.”
He said, upon their return, they will again be going from door to door selling books.
