SOLOMON Islands freelance artist, Fred Oge has scooped the Solomon Islands youth national award 2011-2012.
The presentation was made last week, Thursday.
Mr Oge received the award worth of $10,000 with certificate recognise by the Solomon Islands government from the ministry of women, youth, children and family affairs in Honiara.
Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga presented the awards to Mr Oge and two other recipients of the Solomon Islands youth national 2011-2012.
Mr Oge was recognised for his work as a freelance artist by profession and an active member of the Solomon Islands Artist Association.
Through his work, the 29-year-old has travelled extensively representing Solomon Islands abroad at art festivals and expo programmes internationally.
Permanent secretary Ethel Sigimanu announced the awards that night that is witnessed by the members of the ministry and guests at Tandai beach resort.
She congratulated the youths and said the award is to recognise the achievements of youths in sport, music, art, business and environmental.
The other two recipients are Samson Rano awarded the leadership award and Nolan Parairua gets the community work and leadership award.
Both gentle men also receive cash prize worth of $2500.
Mr Maelanga congratulates the youths, adding they deserve the award and acknowledge the role played by the ministry for recognising the work of youths in this country.
