A CHIEF in Guadalcanal Province has appealed to people in his area to celebrate and welcome the new year without causing disturbances to others.
Chief Ludovick Kaulake of Tandai Ward issued the urgent call for residents of the ward to celebrate the arrival of New Year (NY) 2025 in a peaceful and respectful manner because of the late night disturbances associated with such celebration.
“I’m concerned that the new year celebrations could escalate into disruptive social disturbances, a trend seen in previous years.
“Let us learn from the past. Too often, New Year celebrations lead to chaos, leading to unnecessary conflicts and disruptions. It is imperative that we celebrate this season with respect for one another in our community,” Chief Kaulake said.
The chief highlighted the importance of unity during festive periods, urging families to enjoy their celebrations together, while being mindful of their neighbors.
He expressed gratitude for the peaceful observance of Christmas last week, which he said allowed families throughout the community to come together in joy to commemorate the birth of Christ.
Chief Kaulake also urged the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) to enhance their patrols to communities during the New Year celebration.
“I urge the RSIPF to provide 24-hour patrols in our remote areas to help ensure that everyone can enjoy this special time without fear of disturbance.”
