Local contractors that have been awarded and hired by the Provincial Government of Western Province for projects sometimes in the past have been strongly warned to perform at the highest standard.
This came after many of the Provincial Constituency Development Fund (PCDF) and some Rural Constituency Development Fund (RCDF) projects failed and did not meet the standard requirements and criteria.
During the Tabling of the Western Province Supplementary Budget for 2022/2023, few of the Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) have expressed their disappointment that the projects that were awarded to some contractors have been doing unprofessional work all along the way.
MPA of ward 16, Nusa Roviana, Hon. Jeffrey Wickham strongly warned that there have been many contractors being awarded to carry out projects owned by the provincial government.
Mr. Wickham said this practice done by some of the contractors must be stopped.
He said this is not healthy; this kind of practice only causes a major setback for the province, especially money that has been used and wasted from those failed projects that have been implemented but failed.
‘’Too many local Contractors have been awarded to carry out a project, but we found out later that the work done does not show how tangible it is.
‘’Some of the Contractors must go and we must carefully screen Contractors who want to work with projects belonging to the government,’’ MPA who is also former Provincial Secretary (PS) of Western Province, Jeffrey Wickham expressed.
He added ‘’we have witnessed that a number of projects have failed and this is the fault done by the Contractors themselves.
‘’Both the full house and the Government of the day must see this issue and carefully look, plan and address the situation else the practice will remain the same here in Gizo Western Province,’’ he said.
