SOLOMON Islands walkathon star in Fiji Randy Chite has donated FJD$1,633.91for the victims of the devastating tropical Cyclone Winston to the Fiji Red Cross Society in a ceremony on Thursday.
The 22-year old student at the University of South Pacific (USP) collected the money when embarking on a lone walk around Viti Levu, to raise funds for the cyclone victims.
Accompanying him to the hand over ceremony yesterday was the country’s High Commissioner to Fiji Patterson Oti and members of the Solomon Islands Students Association (SISA) executive at USP.
“The total amount collected for the walkathon cause for TC Winston victims in cheque was FJD$1,633.91,” Mr Randy said.
He goes on to thank everybody who have hosted him, fed him and supported him during the walkathon.
“Without your support, the walkathon wouldn’t be a success.
“I just want to say a huge thanks to the donors as well. God bless you guys.
“Also, a huge thanks to the Solomon Islands High Commissioner Patterson Oti, SISA president Richard Housiho and few members of your committee who accompanied me for the handover ceremony.
“It means a lot to me as a Solomon Islander,” the 22-year old said.
On a personal note, he said he is so glad to be part of the Red Cross Society now as a volunteer.
The young man said even though the amount is not big, it is from the donors and his generous heart.
He also hopes the funds will make a huge difference to the victims who are still struggling today.
