HENDERSON State’s Georjemah Row was awarded the Great American Conference Player of the Week after her three-set win sealed the victory over Southern Arkansas at the No. 2 spot.
The official site of Henderson State Athletics has reported that the junior from Honiara, Solomon Islands becomes the first Reddie to win the award since Annie Shannon in 2016 and only the second ever to win the honor.
Row dropped the first set to SAU’s Sarah Roy 7-5 but was able to claw her way back in a second-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2). With HSU leading the overall match 3-2 and eventually losing at No. 4 to give the Muleriders their third point, Row’s third set was left to decide the Reddies’ fate.
Row finished strong, leaving no doubt after a 6-3 third-set win, giving HSU its first win since Feb. 23, 2020. Henderson also handed the 2019 Central Region Champion Southern Arkansas Muleriders its first loss to a GAC opponent since the program’s reboot two years prior.
Following this great achievement, young Row has received widespread commendation on social media especially Facebook, from Solomon Islanders both in-country and abroad.
Ms Row hails from Tawaraha village in Arosi 2, Makira Ulawa province.
