THIS year is an exciting year for four Solomon island women that scooped eight awards after graduating from Community Education Training Centre (CETC) in Fiji recently.
CETC is offered under Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC).
The program was established to provide technical and vocational training for women in the community development sector.
Three of the women received awards from the courses they’ve studied.
They undergo seven months training and graduated with certificate of applied Community Development Studies, level 3.
The women expressed joy of their achievement and being the last group to have graduated from CETC.
“All the achievement was a result from the ministry of women initiative and efforts that have a passion for capacity build up to improve women services to communities more effective,” said Jacobeth Maneiria, one of the recipients.
“And also for our churches women group who have supported us with their humble and genuine heart for service through labour of love and endurance of hope that bring us this far.”
Nelly Neko said the training really helped her as a community worker in building her confidence and become more effective facilitator in a community base level.
She works as an administrative officer for Choiseul provincial council of women.
The four women are; Jocabeth Maneiria, Julia Piokera, Nelly Neko and Lysess Niabo.
A total of 32 women graduated from 13 countries.
This year is the final year for the course to be offered under SPC and now it has been transferred to the University of the South Pacific (USP) in January 2014.
CETC has been training women and entrepreneurs of the pacific communities in a comprehensive and regional capacity building program.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of CETC that included the final graduation and awarding ceremony in which another local woman Beverly Maega received the Pacific Women Golden award.
