LOKURU farmers in Rendova will host a two-day Diversity Show for farmers to showcase their products and planting materials from their gardens.
Organized by Kastom Garden Association the events will commence on Wednesday and Thursday at Lokuru project site.
According to KGA, the aim of the program is to provide an avenue for farmers to showcase and distribute their products and planting materials from their bulk gardens.
“And to share knowledge and experience on farming to others.
“The show will feature many of the local farmers who are members of the Kastom Garden Association (KGA) and more importantly celebrating the day to display different varieties types of locally grown gardening foods,” it stated.
Early last month, KGA also successfully hosted a two days program in Gizo held at the MSG complex.
Many rural farmers under three farmer associations that are affiliates of KGA have joined the mini-agriculture show.
Majority of the farmers turned up during the program were women.
Three farmers association from West Gizo and Kolombanagara were part of the Farmer’s Diversity Show in July.
Because the farmers from Lokuru were unable to attend the diversity fair in Gizo, this week the event will be hosted for them.
Invited guests include; KGA Officials, Western Provincial Deputy Secretary (DPS), Department of the Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) representatives, Pacific Islands Farmers Organization (PIFON) rep, Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Agriculture (MAL) and other invited guests.
The mini show will also feature some of the awareness talks from the Health Ministry, Women in Business, Plastic Wise group, Strongim Business and other stakeholders.
During the last mini show in Gizo, PS of the MAL, Ethel Frances Tebengi has also encouraged rural farmers especially women not to never give up and keep achieving their dreams.
“We need more women to engage and maintain their involvement in the agriculture sector,” he said.
