The newly established London Mission cost government $3.5 million compared to $1.5 million cost for Brussels and $1.1 million office in New York this year.
Speaking on the floor of parliament during the committee of supply, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Milner Tozaka said, the London mission cost $3.5 million because it is a new mission which the establishment cost will costly than the ongoing mission like New York and Brussels.
Minister said, because of the establishment cost for that new mission in London it will reach that amount but he assured that the figure will drop in the following year.
“Cost like new vehicle for our high commissioner there and other necessary things needed for the office raise the amount to $3.5million.”
But he said this cost will go down in the following year after the office is established and operate.
Tozaka said London mission is very important for the country to stay connected with the United Kingdom because there are a lot of activities Solomon Islands can benefit from UK.
“Our palm oil is processed in Liverpool and is one of the best oil produced compared to other countries around the world.”
Minister was making clarification to question asked by Member of Parliament (MP) for Aoke-Langalanga Matthew Wale, on Thursday.
