STUDENTS 18 years and over from Lungga Community High School in East Honaira received their vaccination yesterday from the Guadalcanal Mobilise Vaccination Team.
The one day rollout vaccination program was held at Lungga School compound for students, teachers and people in communities around the school.
Lungga School principal Joy Cornelius said she was happy students above 18 years and teachers at the school got their COVID-19 vaccination because they will protect other students who are not eligible for the vaccine.
“Students and teachers of Lungga School live in different places in Honiara and Guadalcanal and they need to be vaccinated, not to protect themselves but to protect the whole school from infected from COVID-19,” Ms Cornelius said.
She said about 70 students in forms four and five that are 18 years and over received their vaccination yesterday.
She said the school administration did not forced the students to get vaccinated but after listening to the awareness program from Guadalcanal Province Health Authority on Friday many at the school decided to get vaccinated.
“We also allow the surrounding communities into the school to take their vaccines because they too need to be protected against COVID-19,” Ms Cornelius said.
She said the school provided eligible students food and drinks before they received their vaccinations.
