WORK on upgrading roads in and around Auki, Malaiata is expected to start once all the heavy machineries to work on the roads arrive in Auki.
Dalgro has been awarded the contract to upgrade the roads.
Yesterday the first load of equipment arrived in Auki.
The arrival of the machines was witnessed by Premier Peter Shanel Ramohia and his executive officials.
He thanked the company for moving in to kick off work in Auki.
Meanwhile the arrival of the machines have raised concern by a number of Auki residents about the likely arrival of African Giant Snail.
Some of the residents expressed fear that with such heavy machines these snails may likely to arrive in Auki.
However Dalgro Supervisor George Dunbar speaking to the paper yesterday upon their arrival said, all the machines have been sprayed and properly checked before being shipped over to Auki.
He assured the residents that most of the machines and equipment are snail-free.
The next shipment of machines is expected this week.
