THE Leader of the Independent group, Manasseh Maelanga urges the DCC Government improve some areas of the draft federal constitution before it is finalized.
Mr Maelanga highlighted this in a press conference with local journalists yesterday to talk on issues that the public needs to be aware of and also the government.
He added that within the draft federal constitution, there are few areas that the government needs to look into.
“I urge the DCCG to carefully look at the revenue distribution section of the draft federal constitution.
“This is mainly about the sharing of revenues according to the different provinces.
“This is to avoid smaller provinces from receiving small income,” he said.
Maelanga added that if this matter is not taken seriously, only the provinces with more resources will receive more revenue and the smaller provinces will receive small income.
Another section that he highlighted in the press conference was the land reform.
“I urge the DCC government to relook into the land reform section.
“Maybe if they could try to speed up the process of the federal constitution because some specialists are also taken on-board and the discussions were pretty good.
“This will surely help development in our country by getting people to understand the acquisition of land.
“Land should belong to landowners and not trustees,” the leader of the independent group said.
He added that there are good outcomes being discussed by the specialists and it is a good thing for the government.
Mr Maelanga said that it is now time for the DCC government to implement its policies so that the country can move forward as we celebrate our 37th independence celebration.
