East Malaita MP Manasseh Maelanga says infrastructure development is currently his number one priority.
He outlined this during a meeting in his constituency last weekend.
Maelanga, who is also deputy prime minister, cited good road network as a priority infrastructure.
“This is because no developments can work without good roads,” he said.
“For so long people of east Kwara’ae region have been struggling on muddy paths when travelling to Auki to sell their products,” he said.
“On this note, I have made up my mind that from now on, my main focus in terms of developments is road infrastructure.
“This doesn’t mean that other minor projects will stop. No, they are part of the constituency and they will continue until September when the house will dissolve,” he stated.
Maelanga told the people he was not campaigning here, but telling the people what’s on his mind.
“My time for campaigning is yet to come.
“I know that all of us in east Malaita wanted to see improvement in our standard of living.
“I have come to realise that having a good road system is a catalyst to development. It allows people to travel easily to markets to earn money.”
He reminded the constituents that plans to develop the constituency can only work when people cooperate and show their support.
“If we want to see more developments in our region, you all have to cooperate and support whatever projects we want to build.”
