DEPUTY Prime Minister (DPM) and Member of Parliament (MP) for East Malaita yesterday expresses apology for the illegal rioting, looting and burning incident that ravaged the city fortnight ago.
Speaking in Parliament during the motion of sine die, Manasseh Maelanga condemned the action because many businesses, shops, homes, properties and lives were burnt down and lost.
He said expressed apology to the Chinese community, premiers and people from other provinces.
“As a Malatan leader I would like to apologise to the Chinese community, premiers, people from other provinces for what had happened.”
He said what happened is not good because it bring fear and trauma to many people.
The DPM said its good to have respect for others.
Maelanga urges the public not to burn down businesses and properties in the future because in the end our very own people will suffer.
Last months rioting has resulted in more than 60 businesses being torched and worth of half a billion in assets being lost.
At the same time he calls on the government to support and expand the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) to be fully and better equipped to withstand and face huge crowds of mobs in such violent protest.
Many MPs during their contribution to the motion also condemned the act in the strongest term.
MP for Vatud Freda Tuki Rangirei, MP for East Kwaio Stanley Sofu and MP for East Makira Lilly Maefai and other MPs in their contribution yesterday also condemned the recent civil disorder.
Parliament will continue today to debate on the sine die motion.
