MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for East Malaita on Wednesday cleared the air surrounding the lack of attendance by Members of Parliament (PMs) from Malaita within the Government at the Aimela reconciliation ceremony in Malaita Province.
Speaking at the Motion of Sine Die this week Manasseh Maelanga who is also the Deputy Prime Minister blamed lack of official invitation for their lack of attendance.
Maelanga said as leaders they must receive an official invitation before attending the reconciliation.
He said official invitations will allow them to know the purpose of the reconciliation and to prepare for the event.
“Thats the reason why Malaita MPs within the DCGA government did not attend the event.”
The Deputy Prime Minister questioned who invited the opposition group to be part of the recompilation and why the same invitation was not given to them.
On the same note, he said should Malaita MPs within the DCGA government attend the Aimela reconciliation they will also be blamed for recent protest, burning, and looting of Honiara.
“We don’t want to be part of the blame.”
The East Malaita MP joined Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare by linking the peace and reconciliation at Aimela in Malaita with the protest, looting, and burning of Honiara.
In the meantime, MPs from the opposition group who attended the Aimela peace and reconciliation maintained that the event is a genuine one for Malaita Unity that has nothing to do with the burning and looting in Honiara.
They disassociated themselves from the looting and burning.
Organizers of the event sent an open invitation via social media and print media for Malaita citizens and leaders to attend the event, meaning only those who did not have access to social media and print media would not read the open invitation.
Malaita Provincial Premier also requested on social media and print media for Malaita MPs to show true leadership and humility to attend the peace and reconciliation.
Only Malaita MPs from the opposition side showed up at the event.
