THE race for Makira Ulawa Provincial Premier’s position is currently with the camp led by Ward 10 MPA and former broadcaster Julian Maka’a.
They are ahead of the former premier’s camp.
According to reports from Kirakira yesterday, Maka’a’s camp are confident with their 14 MPAs mostly new ones.
“Yes I can confirm Maka’a’s camp has the number and if they maintain these 14 MPAs it’s likely they will lead the new provincial executive government,” the report stated.
Asked about the other camp one source in Kirakira said at the moment the former premier has only 6 MPAs in his camp.
“The Speaker’s election result yesterday shows that Maka’a’s camp is currently in command when their candidate Peter Ba’ewai won the speaker’s seat,” the source said.
Reports from Kirakira also stated that most Makira people are looking forward for the new provincial executive government.
“We need a strong leader who can work closely with our four members of parliament in order to progress our national projects and other development in the province.
“Makira province is one least develop province in the country in terms of infrastructure, telecommunication and other important development,” the report stated.
Another challenging issue facing Makira province is unsustainable logging activities.
It’s understood that the new executive government needs to address this to protect the province and its people.
