Makira Provincial Government has a new Premier.
He is Stanley Siapu, the provincial member for ward 15, Santa Ana Island.
Mr Siapu was elected yesterday, 12th January 2016.
Siapu won his only rival Peter Baewai with 12 votes to 8 in the 20 member assembly.
The new provincial assembly also elected Reginald Nunu as the new speaker.
The new Makira Ulawa provincial members were elected in late December 2015.
Due to the Christmas and New Year festive season, elections of the premier and speaker were delayed until the start of the New Year.
The new premier is expected to announce the names of ministerial portfolio holders of his new executive government soon.
