THE Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) through its extension division has welcomed its new recruits into the Ministry Friday last week.
A total of 12 new extension officers have been engaged and will be sent out to the provinces.
On Friday night, MAL organized an official programme at the Jina’s restaurant with special treat to commission and congratulate the new officers as they prepare to deploy them to the provinces.
The occasion was a boost for the new recruits as they were given advises and encouragements by senior staff on issues they expect to face in the line of duty.
The new extension staff were commissioned after successfully completing their two weeks of induction Programme.
“This induction training was initiated following previous experiences with new officers not performing up to expectation often due to lack of direction and lack of information,” Director of Extension and project sub coordinator Michael Ho’ota said.
He said that, they (new officers) were introduced to government and Agriculture policies, the various functions of MAL, Public Service Code of Conduct and various extension methodologies and necessary information required for them to be able to work effectively as extension officers once deployed to the provinces.
The participants thanked MAL through its extension division for the initiative and vows to utilize their knowledge and skills in discharging their duties.
Last Friday’s gathering was also to officially close the week long farm mechanization training held at the Taiwan Technical Mission farm besides the welcoming of the new staff.
