LOCAL business women in various parts of Malaita Province yesterday started a three day basic cooking training in the provincial capital of Auki.
The training, which aims at empowering local business women with new knowledge and skill in basic cooking, is an initiative by the Malaita Provincial Government under the Malaita Provincial Women’s Association (Division).
Speaking at opening of the training, Malaita Provincial Women’s development officer, Clera Rikimani said that the training is vital for all business women and caterers in the province, as it provides them knowledge and skills on preparing a wide variety of dishes at a relatively cheaper cost.
Ms Rikimani also added that the training is of uttermost importance as it helps both literate and illiterate local business women know more about food security and also management of their various businesses.
“We are providing this training with the hope of seeing more women be empowered in starting up their own catering businesses or also Kai Bars with various dishes at relatively cheaper costs,” Ms Rikimani said.
Participants who attended the first day of training expressed their gratitude to those responsible for organising such important trainings.
“We may be born with the knowledge of cooking however having attended this training, it will enlighten us even further, especially with key management knowledge and understanding which are of most importance when running our businesses,” the participants said.
