THE Malaita Province government allocates nearly 60% to 70% of its Provincial Capacity Development Funding (PCDF) to the education sector.
Malaita Province Deputy Premier Randol Sifoni announced it during the graduation ceremony at Aligegeo Provincial Secondary School on Thursday.
Mr. Sifoni explained that this funding primarily supports the construction of classrooms, assembly halls, and improvements to school sanitation.
Aligegeo Provincial Secondary School is one of the beneficiaries of this funding.
He expressed hope for continued financial support from the Malaita provincial government in both direct and indirect forms.
With the recent enactment of the new Education Act, Mr. Sifoni noted that more responsibilities and oversight roles have been entrusted to the provincial government.
“This shift aims to enhance focus on local schools.
“The mandated duties of the provincial government are clearly outlined in the education act,” he stated.
Mr Sifoni said this law empowers education providers to deliver high-quality educational services to our children.
However, he noted that the Master Education Development Plan for the province is still in development, which is a prerequisite under the new Education Act.
He emphasized the importance of the Malaita Provincial Government taking initiative to create this master plan in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.
Mr. Sifoni affirmed that the development aspirations of schools in Malaita will be incorporated into the master plan, and it is the sole responsibility of the Malaita Provincial Government to advance this initiative.
