MALAITA Province has so far recorded 21 COVID-19 related deaths since the community transmission outbreak of the virus in the province.
According to data from the Provincial Health Surveillance Unit (PHSU), Malaita’s total number of COVID-19 positive cases stands at 1841, with 21COVID-19 related deaths and 423 recoveries.
However, results from Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) collected to Sunday 13th March indicated that COVID-19 cases continued to increase in Malaita.
The PHSU data also revealed that of the four regions in Malaita, Central Region recorded the highest number of 826 COVID-19 positive cases, Southern Region second highest with 639 positives, Eastern Region 316 and Northern Region with only 61 cases.
A medical worker at Malu’u Area Health Centre, North Malaita said the 61 positive cases recorded in the Northern Region might not reflect the real number of cases because people are refusing to be swabbed by health officers conducting contact tracing.
