MALAITA will take on Honiara in the grand final of the Mariner Beach Soccer Championship at the DC Park on Saturday.
Malaita secured their grand final spot after defeating Makira Ulawa Sharks 11-4 in the semi finals on Thursday.
Malaita proved too strong for the Sharks leading all periods of the match.
Malaita coach Albert Peter is impressed with his boys for making it through to the grand final.
“I am happy with the performance, we have prepared well for this semi final and our game plan worked out well.
“We look forward for the grand finale against Honiara,” he said.
The second semi final match saw Honiara came from behind to beat a tough Western Kiokio side 7-4.
Kiokio were on target in the first period taking a 3-1 lead.
The experienced Honiara side stepped up their game in the second period to level the score 4-4.
Despite a strong performance by Kiokio, Honiara found their way through with another three goals in the final third to seal their victory.
Coach Fred Hale said he had to make some changes in their game before they overcome the Western Kiokio side.
“I thank my boys for the fighting spirit.
“After the second period I told the boys that it is a do or die if we were to secure a grand final spot.
“I have to make some changes to our game plan and with the positive response from the boys, we came out winners,” Hale said.
The finals will be played tomorrow Saturday May 22nd at the DC Park.
The third and fourth playoff will kick off the day’s beach soccer action at 1pm followed by the grand final at 2pm.
