The Malaita Provincial Executive following an urgent meeting invites provinces and churches to prepare for a dialogue.
In a statement issued yesterday MPG came up with the resolutions:
- We note the Motion of No Confidence filed against the Prime Minister Manasseh Damukana Sogavare.
- We thank the Speaker of Parliament for upholding the Constitution and not allowing the motion of Sine Die put forward by the Prime Minister, which would have undermined the democratic process of parliamentary vote of confidence.
- We respect the need for the Members of Parliament to attend to this critical constitutional issue.
- We recall the need for national dialogue on fundamental issues which was issued by this Executive on 31 November 2021.
- We note that the central government is preoccupied with the politics of Parliament and currently unable to engage substantively in fundamental issues.
- We note that this state of affairs is an ongoing reason why there is never progress on the issues of fundamental importance to our country.
- We further note the presence of forces from the Forum Countries Australia, NZ, Fiji and PNG.
We the Malaita Provincial Executive wish to make the following call to Parliamentary leaders:
- To turn your back on personal interest, bribery, business cronies and the powers of corruption.
- To listen to the ordinary people and your voters rather than special interests and those with money.
We the Malaita Provincial Executive wish to make the following call to Provincial leaders and Church leaders:
- We invite all provincial premiers to prepare for a dialogue on fundamental issues with one another and with the government of the day when the constitutional process has run its course over the next weeks.
- We hereby invite all the churches to prepare for a dialogue on fundamental issues of religion, unity and freedom with provinces and the government of the day when the constitutional process has run its course over the next weeks.
We remain committed to be part of the effort to addressing the core root causes of national poverty and conflict in a genuine, forward looking and Godly manner.
God Bless Solomon Islands.
