THE Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) has reaffirmed its commitment to several USAID-funded projects aimed at improving infrastructure and services in the province.
The projects include the Gwaigeo Access Road Rehabilitation, Gwaigeo Factory, Auki Fisheries Cold Storage, and the Ada Koa Cold Storage and Mini-Grid Energy.
Although these projects were announced several years ago, they are yet to be funded, raising questions amongst locals who have been eagerly awaiting their implementation.
Malaita Premier Elijah Asilaua assured the Malaita Provincial Assembly last week that his government remains fully committed to advancing these initiatives.
“Our commitment to these projects namely the Gwaigeo Access Road Rehabilitation, Gwaigeo Factory, Auki Fisheries Cold Storage and Ada Koa Cold Storage with Mini-Grid Energy—remains strong,” he said.
Apart from the still to be funded USAID projects, several Solomon Islands bilaterial partners are supporting Malaita Province’s development efforts.
The Japanese Government is delivering the Kiluufi Hospital Improvement Project and the the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the Auki Road Tar Sealing Project. The Australian Government financed the emergency works on the South Road in Malaita Province, which has been successfully completed.
