MALAITA Provincial Premier Elijah Asilaua condemns the recent removal of materials intended for the Kiluufi Hospital’s new incinerator project.
The incident occurred last week that resulted in the total value of SBD $10,000 worth of materials stolen.
Following an investigation, police have arrested four suspects in their 20s in connection with the incident.
Mr. Asilaua, who just returned from China, emphasized that development projects are designed to benefit the communities and urged everyone, especially young people, to respect these initiatives.
“The products and benefits of these projects belong to Malaitans, not the contractors,” he stated.
He expressed disappointment over the theft, noting that such actions reflect poorly on the province.
“It is disheartening to see some young people failing to respect development activities,” he said.
“We cannot be advocates for development while some still not have respect to such live serving development.”
Mr. Asilaua appealed for unity among communities to reject these negative behaviors and to collaborate closely with law enforcement in addressing such issues.
He said there are two important projects earmarked for the province.
These included the Kiluufi Hospital Improvement Project, funded by Japan, and the Auki Tar Sealing Project, funded by China.
“We must appreciate these opportunities and support them by respecting and caring for them for the benefit of all Malaitans,” Mr. Asilaua concluded.
