MALAITA province will hold the election of a premier this Friday, an insider said.
A member within the newly elected Malaita Provincial Assembly (MPAs) said clerk to the assembly has confirmed election of a speaker was scheduled for tomorrow after which nomination for the premier’s post will open.
“A speaker must first be elected so that he/she can oversee the election of a premier.”
Malaita Province has only this week to elect a premier and form a new government.
The 30 days given for any provincial government to form a government after elections will lapse by this weekend.
And if the province fails to hold the election, the newly elected house will dissolve.
Malaita held its provincial elections on December 10, 2014.
Meanwhile, another reliable source said Aoke Langalanga ward member Malcolm Moli has the support of some 24 members in his camp.
The other two groups are camping at the Malaita Hotel and Gei Ruts Motel.
