PREMIER DANIEL SUIDANI, known for his anti-China stance, has told an audience in East Are’Are he is not against China.
“Rather I do not want to deal with China now because Malaita is not ready,” Mr. Suidani told a private awareness program, those who attended told Solomon Star over the weekend.
The Premier was speaking at Manawai Village after he officially handed over a new market to the people there over the weekend. He is on tour of the Southern Region, starting at Ward 19 and is due back in Auki tomorrow (Wednesday).
“I am not against China. But I am holding back Malaita from dealing with China because we are not ready,” he said.
The statement has ignited debate amongst Malaitans, trying to understand what the Premier meant. Many others have credited him as a leader who has the heart for the people.
Premier Suidani then traveled south to Honoa village and later further south to Hautahe village, where he acknowledged the community for their support to the local community school.
Meanwhile the Malaita Provincial Government is working on a report, which would identify issues dividing Malaita and the National Government over the diplomatic relations with China. The report will also recommend ways to sort out the issues.
No date has been set for the presentation of the report
Plans to have Premier Suidani present the report to the DCGA Government in Honiara are under considerations. Malaita Provincial government officials confirm there are suspicion that the national government could use the occasion to arrest the Premier, a notion which has been rejected by the DCGA government in Honiara.
