MALAITA provincial government employees are currently doing less work, because their departments have no funds to implement their programme activities.
Reports reaching Solomon star in Auki said provincial workers claim that the current Malaita provincial administration is very weak and has no money as shown by the recent delayed payment of workers’ salaries.
It stated that since early this year Malaita provincial government departments and divisions’ operations were left stagnant, no activities and services were implemented.
Low cash flow and poor communications between divisions and workers had become the norm, creating confusion and misunderstanding among officers.
This had lowered the workers’ and assembly men’s confidence in the current Malaita government administration.
Senior officers were also affected and some had expressed their dissatisfaction on how the administration had focused its efforts and priorities.
A senior provincial worker confirmed to Solomon star that most Malaita provincial government services and development programs were on hold because the government was facing budget constraints.
When asked, what will be the next step if the government continued to overlook the workers’ plight, the spokesperson said a peaceful protest was one of solutions they were looking at.
“We are tired of coming to office with financial budget for implementation work.”
“Currently most of us here are doing nothing because is no budget to boost our operational activities in the province”.
“We need money from the provincial administration to deliver services and implement our programmes of action. We need to raise local revenue instead of waiting for services grants from the national government all the time.” the disgruntled employee said.
