EAST Malaita residents can travel freely again after the road block at Kwaiafa River was lifted.
Last week, transport owners allegedly mounted a road block at Kwaiafa River in East Malaita due to the bad state of the bridge.
The road block sparked tensions between landowners and vehicle passengers who thought it was the work of landowners to close down the road.
Landowners denied mounting the road block.
Early this week, the matter was resolved between landowners and vehicle owners.
The east Malaita road runs from Auki across the Island of Malaita linking the West and East.
The closure affected people travelling to and from Auki to access basic services.
Health workers who were on their way to the East to carry out the measles vaccination exercise were also turned back.
The province’s Ministry of Infrastructure is urged to repair the bridge which is deteriorating to an unusable state.
