TEAM Malaita was crowned the champions of the 2023 Solomon Games.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare announced Malaita as the champion during the closing ceremony at the Town Ground Rugby stadium yesterday.
“I now have the honor to announce the winner of the Solomon games goes to Malaita province.
“Congratulations,” he said.
“We have seen the champion of the games but you all remain the winners,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare commended all the athletes for their tremendous performance all through the five-day competition.
He was overwhelmed with the overall performance and level of competition, adding this was a small test of what was to come in November.
“I look forward to hearing our beloved national anthem played when the country celebrates during the pacific games,” he said.
He congratulated the athletes from all the provinces for competing to the best of their ability.
He said the Solomon Games is a pillar in preparing their mentality and a source of pride for their family, provinces and the nation and building new friendships.
Meanwhile, the final medals tally for the games will be made available once the LOC for the 2023 Solomon Games is finalized.
