MALAITA Province will elect its new premier this week.
That was according to the province’s legal adviser Hendry Kala.
MR Kala said the newly elected Assembly will commence its first sitting Monday.
“The purpose of the first meeting is for all MPA members to attend and discuss the election of the speaker and the premier,” Mr Kala said.
“However, the clerk will first announce the nomination of speaker and after electing the speaker he (speaker) will call on the nomination of premier by the MPA members.
“That’s the sequence of the process.
“So by next week, the province should have a new government,” he said.
Meanwhile, lobbying amongst provincial members is underway.
The Solomon Star understands three camps have been formed – one led by Rev.Michael Maeliau, the second by Malcolm Moli and the third by lawyer Leslie Kwaiga.
Malaita Province has 33 provincial members.
It held its election on December 10 last year
