KWANA’AI Tribe Board of Trustees (KBT) from north Malaita has thrown its support behind the call from the Guadalcanal provincial government to address squatter settlement in provincial territories.
KBT spokesman Lency Wanefalea said his tribe supported the call.
Mr Wanefalea said the concern voiced by the Guadalcanal Provincial Government Premier over the squatter issue on Guadalcanal should be taken seriously as a national concern.
He said the government of the day should establish a workable process for a solution to rectify this long standing grievance.
“As one of the tribal based organizations undertaking one of the national projects in Malaita province, KBT is supportive of the Guadalcanal premier calling on the central government, Honiara city council, Malaita provincial government and the Guadalcanal provincial government to be vigilant, cautious, take to heart and heed this genuine concern of the G Province and the people of Guadalcanal”, he said.
He said the call by the GP Premier is genuine, generous, and timely.
Mr Wanefalea urged the people of Malaita and other provinces who settled in Guadalcanal to remain within Honiara boundary and stop trespassing into Guadalcanal provincial territories.
“If we start to squatter, conquer and subdue the land under Guadalcanal provincial jurisdiction, then we are inviting disagreement, dispute and even possible disorder,” Mr. Wanefalea warned.
“Please let us be considerate and follow the golden rule; do unto others what you want them to do to you,” he added.
