MALAITA Eagles Under-19 football team round-up the Youth Solomon Cup yesterday with a hundred percent record to become 2018 champions.
The Junior Eagles saved the best for the last as they thrashed Central Islands 5-2 on the final match day of the Youth Solomon Cup at Lawson Tama Stadium.
Sixth win on the spin from six games means the champions won the U-19 title undefeated.
Tournament’s top scorer Charles Mani bagged two goals in the first half to extend his overall tally to 9 goals from six appearances.
Most outstanding player of the tournament, Henley Ramo was on song since the opening day of the tournament and he produced another classic performance yesterday.
Malaita head coach, Robert Wanedala said overall his boys deserved to become champions.
“I think my boys did really well since day one of the tournament and they showed on the pitch what they need to do to become champions.
“They did it by winning games together as a team,” he said.
Frank Kabui led by example as he dictated the play from midfield as he won his second major title in two years.
Kabui was part of the 2017 Solomon Cup winning Malaita Eagles senior side.
Wanedala stressed his young boys were determined to repeat their senior’s achievement in last year’s Solomon Cup.
“Before we came to Honiara our boys are keen to do what the senior Malaita Eagles team did in the Solomon Cup last year.
“They always say that if our bigger brothers can do it, why we can’t do the same for our province,” the Malaita Eagles U-19 coach stressed.
The Junior Eagles coach paid tribute to God almighty for the success in his final remarks.
“I want to give back all the glory to God because in camp we always give back thanks to our King for our victories,” he added.
SIFF president, William Lai said the Youth Solomon Cup will now become an annual event during his term in office.
