THREE provincial beach soccer teams have confirmed their semi final spots after day four of the Mariner Beach Soccer Championship at the DC Park.
Defending champions, Malaita sealed a spot for the semi final following their third consecutive win, Tuesday.
Malaita defeated a spirited Choiseul side 6-4 in Tuesday’s pool A’s opening match.
They sit at the top of pool with nine points with one group match left to play.
Coach Albert Peter is happy with the win, however, was not really satisfied with his team’s performance.
“It’s good to get another win however the performance today was not up to the standard as I have expected.
“I think this is due to the slight injuries of some of my boys so they played to a level which is not what we expected but satisfactory,” he said.
Western Kiokio has also confirmed their semi-final spot finishing top of pool B with nine points after defeating Makira Ulawa Sharks 7-2.
“I’m really impressed with my boys for fighting hard and finishing top of our pool.
“This success comes from team work.
“We now focus for the semi finals and we look forward to give a good match against whichever team we face in the semi finals,” Western Kiokio coach Benjamin Mela said.
The third team to secure a semi final spot is Makira Ulawa Sharks.
Despite losing to Western Kiokio the Sharks managed to get through after Temotu upset Isabel in the last crucial Pool B match.
Makira Ulawa joins Western as the top two teams from Pool B finishing with the greatest number of goals scored in all group matches despite equaled on three points and goal difference with Isabel.
Meanwhile, Honiara hopes for a place in the semi-finals is still on after defeating Guadalcanal 8-3 in the last game of Day 4.
Matches will continue today featuring the remaining matches of pool A.
Honiara will take on Choiseul at 2:45pm and Malaita will play Central Province at 4pm to wrap up the group stage.
